Here in the valley we have a wealth of opportunity to pursue a wide range of fishing. The proximity of the Great Smoky Mountains offers 800 miles of fishable streams where an angler can catch Brown, Rainbow and Southern Strain Brook trout, the only salmonid native to our region. We are also blessed with a river system that offers miles and miles of riverine and shoreline habitat where Smallmouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Stripped Bass, Musky and many other game
On February 2nd we will begin the fly tying season here at 3 Rivers Angler with our first 2017 installment of Lying & Tying. The concept is simple: bring something to drink, some materials, and a vise. Tie a little, lie a little, and maybe even learn a new pattern. Experts and novices are all invited no matter your level of experience. Don't have a vice? Don't worry, you can borrow one of ours. Tying starts at 5pm and goes till the last bobbin drops.
In addition, we will start our 2017 fly tying classes on Saturday February 4th, Fly Tying 101: Intro to Tools, Techniques and Terminology. We will cover everything from selection and use of tools, thread selection, and the basic tying skills you will need to get started in this rewarding endeavor. The class cost is $25.00 and will be limited to 6 students (minimum of 2). The class will begin at 9:00 am and will end about lunch time. All tools and materials are provided.
The first session of Fly Tying 201: Midges and Bead Head Nymphs will be held March 2nd. Students will build on their skills from Fly Tying 101 and will learn to tie the most relevant patterns for use in East Tennessee. Fly Tying 101 is a pre-requisite for Fly Tying 201. The class cost is $25.00 and will be limited to 6 students (minimum of 2).
The first session of the third installment of our fly fishing courses for 2016, Fly Tying 301: Dry Flies, will be held on March 11th. Students will again build off of their skills learned in Fly Tying 101 and will learn to tie both a swept wing caddis style dry as well as a post wing mayfly style dry. Fly Tying 101 is a pre-requisite for Fly Tying 301. The class cost is $25.00 and will be limited to 6 students (minimum of 2).

3 Rivers Angler, your local fly fishing resource, is offering "fly fishing 101″ lessons on fly casting and outfit rigging at absolutely no charge. Each class teaches the basics of rigging, casting and other intro to fly fishing skills. All of the gear and instruction is provided free of charge. Space is limited so please make sure to sign up well in advance. Classes typically run from 9:00 am too 11:00 am on Saturdays.
Bring a fly rod and reel with line if you have one, (if not, one can be provided in the beginning.) We'll be covering "what to buy" during the first class session so it is something that we can work around if you do not have one to start. Bring a notebook and pen to take notes. All graduates recieve 15% off their first purchase!
